NuTech’s Arkoma STACK study includes reservoir characterization on 104 petrophysically evaluated well logs in the Northwest corner of the Arkoma Basin. Spread across parts of Hughes, Okfuskee, Pittsburgh, McIntosh, and Coal counties, the Arkoma STACK study focuses on the liquids rich gas window of the basin, an area that until recently was under-exploited compared to the dry-gas Arkoma Woodford activity to the East and to the South. The Arkoma STACK study borrows the STACK name from the larger, more recognizable STACK play 120 miles to the west, on the eastern edge of the Anadarko Basin. The stacked Caney Shale, Mayes, and Woodford Shale sequence was evaluated in the Arkoma STACK study, where Caney Shale/Mayes are age-equivalent to Meramec/Osage targets in STACK, and Woodford is, well, Woodford. With the play starting out slow in 2015, the area saw a boom of activity in 2017, which resulted in Hughes county being the most leased county in all of Oklahoma for 2017.
