The Niobrara Shale Play is defined by three major basins that cover parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and
Nebraska. Below is an overview of the three major basins of the
Niobrara shale.
North Park
The North Park basin is 1500 sq mile area located in Jackson County, Colorado just south of the Wyoming border and is surrounded by mountains. This makes it the smallest of the three basins. There are 5 wells evaluated by NuTech in this area and several close to it outside of any of the three areas.
Powder River Basin
The Powder River Basin is comprised of Northeastern Wyoming and
Southeastern Montana. NuTech has evaluated 62 wells in this area and
several more Niobrara wells to the north of the defined area. As of 2002 the USGS estimated 16.5 TCF of gas, 1.5 billion barrels of
oil, and 86.5 million barrels of natural gas liquids still undiscovered
in this basin.
This Niobrara study provides a petrophysical and geological analysis of 88 Niobrara wells that allows insight into the connectivity of textural attributes of the wells with NuLook Shale Vision and NuView 3D Reservoir Vision. Also available to coincide with the study is a GeoTextural rock properties log that depicts the brittleness of the formation.
Denver-Julesburg Basin (D. J. Basin)
The
Denver-Julesburg basin covers a large portion of Northwestern Colorado
as well a Southeastern Wyoming and Southwestern South Dakota. NuTech has
evaluated 89 wells marked as Niobrara in this region.
