NuTech Energy Alliance featured on Unconventional Gas Center Online

The key to maximizing the economics of any play - getting good results while not spending a lot of money on drilling - according to speaking Bill Boykin, vice president of business development of NuTech Energy Alliance, "is to study existing data and develop the smartest possible strategy before you even put the bit in the ground."

Hart Energy's DUO 2012 panel, "Assessing Oily Shales" addressed regional geology, reservoirs studies and industry understanding of two western plays, Bakken and Niobrara. According to speaker Professor Steven Sonnenberg's unconventional checklist, both plays have sweet spots, continuous accumulations, are hydrocarbon saturated and abnormally pressured, have low permeability and porosity, big generation windows and large volumes of oil or gas in place.

Late Edition interviewed Allen Howard, President & CEO, about NuTech’s experience in emerging shales.

David Pescod: We are with Allen Howard, President and CEO with NuTech Energy Alliance out of Houston, Texas and he’s got some serious expertise in the shale plays. But first, Allen, a little background on NuTech and I hear you are awfully busy these days with the explosion of interest in shale oil and gas…

Allen Howard: That’s correct Dave. NuTech has been in business for 14 years as a company; we have grown it from my kitchen table into a firm of about 100 employees with 55 engineers and 15 geoscientists. We have offices in several places around the world, and we are about to open an office in Canada this year, to be based in Calgary.
